Headwaters Arts Presents a Fall Lineup of Film, Visual Arts & Music
Caledon, ON – Join regional non-profit Headwaters Arts for a spectacular showcase of arts and culture, with the return of one of Ontario’s most respected arts events! This year Headwaters Arts’ main event, the Annual Juried Show and Sale, returns to the award-winning Alton Mill Arts Centre from September 19 – October 8, 2018. Sue Powell, one of three jurors for this year’s exhibition, suggests that visitors will encounter an engaging mix of new and familiar styles from emerging and mid-career artists. She elaborates that the highlight of seeing artwork in a gallery is the experience of making a “very personal visual connection.” Powell suggests that the public stop by to see what pieces capture their interest; visitors to the gallery are encourage d to vote for their favourite artwork throughout the show.
Powell, who began her association with the Headwaters Arts Festival in 1999 as a participating artist – a decade before the restoration of the historic Alton Mill – describes Headwaters Arts’ fall lineup as a “keystone event” in the region, building and strengthening partnerships with dedicated community volunteers, businesses, municipalities, and residents. She elaborates that the Headwaters Arts Fall Event is “an opportunity to showcase and share the magnitude of creative and cultural brilliance that thrives in these hills and beyond.”
The Opening Night Preview (Thursday, September 20 at 7pm) is an opportunity for the public to meet and speak with exhibiting artists, whilst celebrating excellence in the arts across the region and province. The Opening Night Preview is a fundraiser, ticketed at $25, with proceeds supporting Headwaters Arts and Canadian art. Also returning this year is The Big Blues Party II, an evening of Blues and dancing with local favourite Larry Kurtz and his solo band The Lawbreakers. For movie aficionados, a special screening of a dramatic biopic, Gauguin: Voyage to Tahiti takes place at Monday Night at the Movies at Galaxy Cinemas in Orangeville on October 1; doors open at 6pm, film begins at 7pm ($14, tax inclusive).
