SUMI-E PAINTING WITH ROSLYN LEVIN: 3–DAY WORKSHOP
Wednesday, Thursday & Friday, September 26, 27 & 28, 2018.
Wednesday, Thursday & Friday, November 7, 8 & 9, 2018.
Time: 11:00am to 4:00pm
Artist/Instructor: Roslyn Levin
This course is an excellent opportunity to practice simplicity in your art. Sumi-e, also known as oriental brush stroke painting, is noted for its spontaneity. In China this art was first practiced by the Zen priests to improve their spirituality and meditation through artistic concentration, inspiration and perfection. Instructor Roslyn Levin introduces students to Sumi-e in an approachable, inspirational way, working on rice paper with ink to create paintings with a classic elegance that portrays the artist’s personal spirit. Students will begin with the basic brushstrokes, and then their days will be filled with crocuses, bamboo and pear, or other traditional subjects – wild orchid, chrysanthemum and plum blossom may also be used for first subjects. Those who have taken sumi-e previously with Roslyn as well as new sumi-e students, can email firstname.lastname@example.org with subjects they would like to paint, and she will do her best to accommodate requests.
Cost: $195 + hst for the 3–Day Workshop or $75 + hst per day. Art materials extra.
