Dufferin Arts Council presents Celebrate the Arts II

Dufferin Arts Council celebrates the rich arts and culture of the Headwaters region with Celebrate the Arts II, a four-day event that celebrates Orangeville’s Culture Days. This year all events are free thanks to a generous grant from the County of Dufferin. Many venues require reserving a spot however, so book your tickets!

Advance tickets for Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening are available from Dragonfly Arts on Broadway, BookLore and Orangeville Tourist Centre.

Advance tickets for Chief LaForme are available from BookLore and Westminster United Church.

Thursday 27 September

Orangeville’s Arts & Culture Awards

Orangeville Opera House, 7 pm, advance tickets required

The Town of Orangeville kicks off Culture Days by hosting a Celebration of the Arts. The highlight of the evening reception is the presentation of the town’s annual Arts and Culture awards. Beginning in 2010 the Town of Orangeville has recognized businesses, organizations and individuals who have contributed to arts and culture in Dufferin County.

 

Friday 28 September

Broadway, the Orangeville Way

Orangeville Opera House, 7 pm, advance tickets required

This concert features what you might expect on a Broadway stage—singing, dancing, quartets, and maybe even a bit of comedy. Featuring Orangeville Music Theatre, Theatre Orangeville, Rhythmfoot (Frank & Chanda Leahy and family) and individual performances by our local performing community, both young and old and professional. Live art. Donation box. Proceeds to support the DAC Reed Cooper Bursary.


Saturday 29 September

Fundraising Basement Sale

Westminster United Church, 9 am to 1 pm​

A great variety of quality used items at reasonable prices. Proceeds to support DAC Anne Laurier Scholarships for post-secondary students in the arts.

 

‘Fall Fantasy’ Orangeville Art Group’s 48th Annual Show & Sale

Lord Dufferin Centre, 10 am to 6 pm

Proceeds from donations made at this event go to Headwaters Hospital program, Keeping Cancer Care Closer to Home through the Lord Dufferin Centre’s ongoing fund-raising initiative, Helping Hands Caring Hearts.

 

DAC Market

Westminster United Church, 9am to 9 pm

Features used and collectible original works of art and handmade crafts, folk art, pottery, antique Canadian pressed glass and more. Great finds, reasonable prices for hand-made items and historic works, mainly Canadian.

 

DAC Youth Variety Concert

Westminster United Church, 10:30 am to 11:30 am

Showcasing local, emerging young performers. Live art. Donation box. Proceeds to support DAC’s Artists in the Schools program.

 

Experience Culture in Historic Downtown Orangeville

11:00 am to 4:00 pm

Visit open studios, demonstrations and events at Broadway Music, Aardvark Music Studio, Dragonfly Arts on Broadway, Magiolly Art, Pottery Plus, Suzanne Gardiner Flowers, Citrus City Tattoo and Glass Craft. Pop up performances on the street and special art exhibits of local historic Caledon artist Tom Albert Stone (1896 – 1978) in downtown business windows.

 

Poets in Residence

Orangeville Visitors Centre, 11:00 am to 4:00 pm​

Dufferin County Poet Laureate, Harry Posner, and friends welcome guests at the Orangeville Visitor’s Centre (Hwy 10 and Buena Vista Dr.) As well as performing their works these masters of verse will discuss the creating, writing and publishing poetry in the Headwaters Region.

Donation box. Proceeds to support Poetry on Broadway 2019

 

Chief R. Stacey LaForme

Westminster United Church 1:oo to 2:00 advance tickets required

Stacey LaForme is Chief of the Mississauga’s of the Credit of the Anishinaabe, and will enlighten you with a conversation about reconciliation through the poetry in his newest book, Living in the Tall Grass, Poems of Reconciliation. Sponsored by BookLore and Headwaters Indigenous Awareness Group.

 

Barbara McCann on African Textiles

Orangeville Public Library, 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm

A special presentation and exhibition by Barbara McCann discussing her 45-year journey collecting, studying and researching African textiles handmade mainly in remote villages. Donation box. Proceeds to the Stephen Lewis Foundation.

 

Songs of Love and Inspiration

Westminster United Church, 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm advance tickets required

Our second evening concert at Westminster United Church. This performance features local vocal singers joined by a variety of dancers and more! Live art with Ricky Schade. Donation box. Proceeds to DAC’s Artists in the Schools program.

 


Sunday 30 September

Sunday Best

A local church TBD, 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm

Our final event is entitled Sunday Best, a concert of favourite spiritual music at one of our local churches. Participants will be encouraged to wear their Sunday finest and be captured by members of our local camera clubs or perhaps catching themselves in a real cultural selfie to share on social media. Donation box. Proceeds to DAC’s Community Projects.
