Pack up the family for a short drive to Headwaters to experience a real Ontario winter weekend. We’ve got you covered with all the basics for winter fun:
You can skate on the pond or the 2km skate track at Island Lake Conservation Area. If cross country skiing or snowshoeing is more your style, check out Terra Cotta Conservation Area where equipment rentals are available. Folks who already have the winter gear can head directly to Island Lake or Terra Cotta where you’ll find well-marked trails throughout the conservation areas. With 27 kilometres of groomed and track-set trails, Albion Hills Conservation Area offers winter fun in many forms from skiing to snowshoeing to tobogganing for all levels from beginners to experts and has the rental equipment available to do it all.
For families who prefer activities with a little more speed, we offer both downhill skiing or snowboarding courtesy of Hockley Valley Resort where you’ll find more than a dozen ski runs plus snowboarding terrain and fantastic Ski & Stay Packages.
Winter adventurers need sustenance and Headwaters is proud to be home to several family-friendly restaurants and delicious destinations offering a variety of local fare.
Spirit Tree Estate Cidery in Caledon is famous for its fabulous wood fired oven pizza every weekend (not to mention their ciders – both non-alcoholic and alcoholic). The cidery is also home to a Farm Shop featuring delicious taste sensations from local producers for you to take home.
Located in the village of Belfountain and boasting spectacular views of the Credit river in every season, Belfountain Inn‘s casual environment and well-rounded menu offers something for everyone. Husband and wife team Thorntin and Sonia Macdonald look forward to welcoming your family for any occasion.
Foodie families take heart. The Friendly Chef Adventures offers the opportunity for children and adults to hone your culinary skills. Whether you’re a beginner looking for instruction on the basics, or comfortable in the kitchen and looking to build your specialty cooking skills, Chef Pam Fanjoy will teach you how. Consider calling ahead to book your own private family class. Or if you proudly wear the ‘Official Taster’ crown in your family, tag along, take a load off and enjoy some of the many made-to-order delicacies in-store.
After a full day of trails and treats, it’s time for the family to hit the hay. Overnight accommodation is made easy with Best Western Plus Orangeville Inn and Suites and Hockley Valley Resort offering family friendly rooms. If a bed & breakfast is more your style, our region has loads of local options.
Finally, bring your busy family weekend to an end with a stop at Heatherlea Farm Market on your way home to pick up one of their delicious farm-made meals, complete and ready-to-heat and serve once you’re back in the city. The perfect way to bring home a taste of Headwaters.
