Mono, Ontario— Thursday, June 1, 2017 — The Decanter World Wine Awards, a competition that has sought to shine a light on the wine world’s hidden gems since its inception in 2004 released its winners for 2017 which saw record entries of more than 17,200 wines coming in from Chile to China.

2014 Lowrey Vineyard Pinot Noir – Silver
2014 Barrel Select Gamay Artist Series – Bronze
2015 Wismer Foxcroft Wild Ferment Chardonnay – Bronze

Siblings John Paul Adamo and Julie Adamo Cass are Owner/Operators of Adamo Estate Winery. “We are so proud of the performance of these wines, especially of our own Estate Riesling for winning Best in Show and Platinum.” said John Paul Adamo. “That’s a huge validation for us as the fruit was grown here in Mono, Ontario, a new Terroir for the province of Ontario.”

“We have been so fortunate to have had an incredible response to the wines we are producing, it’s been a lot of hard work, and heart and soul and these latest awards are a fantastic accolade for our young winery” said Julie Adamo Cass.

Laura Seal for Decanter.com wrote ‘Other unexpected triumphs included Canada’s top spot as Platinum Best in Show for Best Value Dry Riesling. Adamo’s Riesling 2016 from Ontario beat off competition from Germany, Austria and
Alsace with its ‘cascading minerality’.’

Shauna White, Adamo’s Winemaker said “It’s very exciting to be growing grapes in a new emerging region. Our young vines are showing well and the flavours and profiles are developing as a representation of where they were organically grown. With low intervention winemaking we respect the terroir of the individual vineyard for each of the wines we make. I’m so excited to see where we can go from here.”

Wines can be purchased online through adamoestate.com with the exception of the 2016 Adamo Estate Riesling which will be released on Monday, June 5 and can be purchased directly at the winery.

Founded in 2011 and opened in 2016, Adamo Estate Winery is located one hour from downtown Toronto in the Hills of Headwaters, the birthplace of four major Ontario river systems: the Nottawasaga, the Credit, the Humber, and the Grand. The area’s terroir, temperate micro-climate and elevation provide ideal conditions for growing Ontario grape varieties.
